Why is my child so emotional?

A brain full of dysregulation cannot focus. Regulate, relate,

Emotional dysregulation in neurodivergent children and teenagers often happens when a
person’s nervous system becomes completely overwhelmed.

Common triggers include:

Sensory Input: Sensory processing differences making environments feel too loud, bright, or intense.
Social Demands: Navigating school expectations and social understanding without enough downtime.
Physical Factors: Fatigue, hunger, or changes in routing.
Sudden Transitions: Unexpected shifts in activities or environments.

Why do I know what to do, but still can’t do it?

One of the most frustrating experiences for many neurodivergent people is knowing exactly what needs to happen… but feeling completely unable to begin.
This isn’t a lack of intelligence or motivation.
Often it’s a combination of executive functioning (getting started), anxiety, perfectionism (often hidden), sensory overwhelm or nervous system dysregulation. When the brain is working hard simply to feel safe, starting even small tasks can feel overwhelming.
Rather than focusing on willpower, we explore what’s creating the block. Together we develop personalised strategies that reduce overwhelm, improve regulation and make starting and completing tasks feel much more achievable.
