Family Mentoring

Less guesswork. More understanding. Practical strategies that fit your family.

Many parents reach out to me when, they feel exhausted, overwhelmed and frightened that things will never improve. They have often tried everything they can think of, yet still find themselves wondering why life feels so difficult and what they should do differently.

Family mentoring gives you the space to talk openly about what’s happening, make sense of the challenges you are facing, and leave with practical, personalised strategies that help you can start straight away.

My aim is to help you cut through the overwhelm, understand what’s really going on beneath the surface, and feel more confident supporting your child, yourself and your family.

Together, we’ll build approaches that are realistic, compassionate and designed to actually work in your everyday.

So, what is family mentoring?

Family mentoring is a personalised approach that supports not just the individual, but the people who care for them every day.

Sometimes this means spending time with your child to understand how they experience the world. Sometimes it means talking with parents or carers about the challenges you’re facing at home.

Often, it is a combination of both.

By bringing everyone’s perspectives together, we can begin to build a clearer picture of what is happening and identify practical strategies that genuinely fit your family. No two families are the same, so every mentoring journey is shaped around your individual needs.

Family core support values

Who is family mentoring for?

Family mentoring may be helpful if:

  • Your child experiences frequent meltdowns, shutdowns or overwhelm.
  • Everyday routines have become a source of stress.
  • You’re finding it difficult to understand your child’s behaviour.
  • You feel like you’ve tried everything and don’t know what to do next.
  • Some family members are responding differently and would benefit from a shared understanding.
  • You’d like practical strategies that feel realistic and achievable for your family.
  • If you are thinking, I can’t do this anymore.
  • I don’t know what to do anymore to help them.

Whether your child is in the early years, primary school, secondary school or beyond, support is always adapted to your family’s circumstances.

What we might explore

Every family is different, but support may include:

  • Understanding neurodivergence and how it presents for your child.
  • Emotional regulation and co-regulation.
  • Anxiety and overwhelm.
  • Sensory processing differences.
  • Communication and relationships.
  • Behaviour as communication.
  • Daily routines and transitions.
  • School-related challenges.
  • Building confidence for both children and parents.

How can mentoring look

Family mentoring is flexible and shaped around what will be most helpful.

Sessions may include:

  • Parent or carer conversations.
  • Individual mentoring with your child.
  • Joint sessions where appropriate.
  • Practical strategy planning.
  • Reviewing what is working and adapting support as your family grows.

The focus is always on creating support that works in real life, not just during a mentoring session.
